Nobody wants to find a trailer, a hitch, and a friend with a truck to get a dead cart to a shop, and in a 55-plus community like Kings Ridge or Del Webb Minneola that is doubly true. Clermont’s 2020 Census population was 43,021, with a median age of 45.5 and 25.8 percent of residents 65 or older, and a lot of that population lives inside guard-gated golf communities where the cart is daily transportation, not a toy. What a mobile visit covers

Will not move. The cart is on, the key is on, the pedal does nothing, or it clicks and does nothing. That is a solenoid, controller, throttle input, motor, or cable problem, and the order we test in is the order that costs you least. Will not charge, or the charger never clicks off. Charger output test, charge-port pin check, receptacle wiring, and then the pack. A charge port is a $100 to $300 fix rather than a $1,200 one. See charger repair.

Weak, slow, sags on a hill. Per-battery load test and voltage-drop checks along the main cables. Clermont sits on the northern end of the Lake Wales Ridge, and a cart that struggles on a real grade shows a weak pack sooner than the same cart would on flat ground. Sometimes it is the pack, sometimes it is one bad battery in a young pack, sometimes it is a corroded cable strangling a healthy pack. Cupped, cracked, or bald tires. $75 to $150 each installed, usually the same visit.

Lights, signals, mirror, reflectors. F.S. 316.212(6) requires efficient brakes, reliable steering, safe tires, a rearview mirror, and red reflectors front and rear on any designated street, and night use needs headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and a windshield where the local government allows it. The diagnostic, in order

We do the same sequence on every cart, because skipping steps is how people get sold batteries they did not need.

1. Listen and look. The symptom description, the battery date codes, the condition of the terminals and cable ends, the water level in the cells, the charger’s indicator behavior.
2. Pack voltage, then per-battery voltage. A 48V pack resting at 48 volts with one battery at 6 volts and five at 8.4 is a one-battery problem, not a pack problem.
3. Load test each battery. Voltage under load is what the motor actually sees, and a hill exposes a weak battery faster than flat ground does. A battery that reads fine at rest and collapses under load is done.
4. Hydrometer on flooded packs. Specific gravity cell by cell. A cell well below its neighbors is sulfated or shorted.
5. Voltage drop along the main cables under load. A healthy cable drops almost nothing. A corroded one can drop a volt or more, which at cart currents is enormous, and it shows up first on a climb.
6. Charger output at the plug and at the receptacle.
7. Solenoid, controller, and throttle input if the cart still will not move with a healthy pack behind it.

Hills, heat, and storms

Three local patterns account for a lot of our calls.

The grades. Clermont sits on the northern tip of the Lake Wales Ridge, the ridge system that carries Sugarloaf Mountain to 312 feet, the highest point on the Florida peninsula. Streets inside Kings Ridge and around downtown Clermont climb and drop in a way most Florida golf cart towns never do, and that means more current draw on the way up and more brake wear on the way down. A cart that seems weak here may simply be doing more work than the same cart would on flat ground.

The heat. NOAA’s 1991 to 2020 normals for the Clermont 9 S station count 113.1 days a year at 90°F or above, with June and July highs near 93°F.
