Golf Cart Tune-Up Service in Clermont
Clermont Golf Cart Repair does the annual tune-up in your driveway: $100 to $200 for an electric cart, $150 to $300 for gas, with the $50 to $100 service call applied toward it. The tune-up is the cheapest thing on our price list and the one that most reliably prevents the expensive things. A watered, clean-terminaled, properly charged lead-acid pack lasts a year or two longer than a neglected one, and on a $1,200 to $1,800 pack that is the best return in golf cart ownership.
Why the annual matters more here
Hills. Clermont sits on the northern tip of the Lake Wales Ridge, the ridge system that carries Sugarloaf Mountain to 312 feet, the highest point on the Florida peninsula. A cart that climbs and descends real grades, inside Kings Ridge or around downtown near Lake Minneola, works its brakes and its pack harder than a flat-town cart doing the same mileage. The annual is when that extra wear gets caught before it becomes a breakdown.
Heat. NOAA’s 1991 to 2020 normals for the Clermont 9 S station put the June and July highs near 93°F, and count 113.1 days a year at 90°F or above. Heat evaporates water out of flooded batteries; when the electrolyte drops below the plates, the exposed lead sulfates permanently. Watering is the single most important item on the list, and it is the one owners skip.
Humidity off the lakes. Clermont sits on Lake Minneola, part of the Clermont Chain of Lakes, and garages near the shoreline stay damp enough of the year to oxidize terminals, cable lugs, and charge-port pins. Corrosion adds resistance, resistance means incomplete charging, and chronic undercharging sulfates plates. Terminal cleaning and coating stops that chain. This is fresh-water humidity, not salt air, but it still corrodes.
Year-round use. Mild winters mean no real off-season, so a cart inside Kings Ridge or Del Webb Minneola accumulates a year of cycles every year, on brakes, tires, and batteries that also do more work per trip because of the terrain.
What the electric tune-up includes
Battery pack
- Water level in every cell, topped with distilled water after charge
- Resting pack voltage and per-battery voltage
- Load test on each battery, hydrometer on flooded packs
- Terminals and cable lugs cleaned, tightened, and coated
- Voltage-drop test along the main cables under load
- Charger output test at the plug and receptacle; charge-port pins cleaned
Brakes and tires
- Pedal travel and parking brake hold on an incline, a real test on Clermont’s terrain
- Drums opened and inspected, shoes measured, cables and cams lubricated
- Tire pressure set, tread and sidewalls checked for dry rot and cupping
- Lug nuts torqued
Drive and electrical
- Solenoid and tow/run switch operation
- Throttle response, forward and reverse switch
- Motor brushes and bearings listened to under load
Lights and safety equipment
- Headlights, taillights, brake lights, turn signals, horn
- Mirror, reflectors, windshield condition
- F.S. 316.212(6) requires efficient brakes, reliable steering, safe tires, a rearview mirror, and red reflectors front and rear on any designated street; the check covers that list and the LSV list from F.S. 316.2122 where it applies
Finish
- Torque check on hold-downs and hardware, test drive on a grade if one is nearby, written notes on anything that is wearing and what it will cost
Anything the tune-up finds is quoted from the published list and can usually be done the same visit. The brakes and tires and charger repair pages cover the two most common follow-ons.
Gas carts
Gas tune-ups add engine oil and filter, spark plug, air and fuel filters, drive belt inspection, starter-generator belt tension, and a carburetor check, at $150 to $300. Most carts in this area are electric, but the gas ones get the same mobile visit.
When to book
Spring, before the heat. Water levels topped and terminals clean going into the 90-degree stretch. After storage. If the cart sat for a season, a tune-up with a load test is the right first call. Before storm season. A fully charged, sound cart is transportation when the grid goes down; Hurricane Ian’s near-miss in 2022 showed the difference a pre-storm check makes even when the storm does not hit directly.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does a golf cart tune-up cost?
$100 to $200 for an electric cart: battery water and load test, terminal cleaning and coating, brakes, tires, lights, and every connection checked. Gas carts run $150 to $300 because they add oil, plugs, filters, and belt. The $50 to $100 service call is applied toward it.
How often should a cart be serviced around Clermont?
Once a year for a cart that goes out a couple of times a week on flatter streets. Twice a year for a true daily driver on hillier ground, like inside Kings Ridge, because grades add extra wear to brakes and batteries on top of the normal cycle count. Flooded batteries need water checked on top of that, every two to four weeks in summer.
My cart sat in storage. Is a tune-up enough or does it need batteries?
The tune-up answers that question. It includes a load test on each battery after a proper charge, and the numbers say whether the pack came through storage or not. A pack that was left fully charged usually did; one left at partial charge through a South Lake County summer often did not.
Do you do tune-ups inside Kings Ridge and Del Webb Minneola?
Yes, at any of the gates. Let the gatehouse know to expect us at the scheduled window. Trilogy Orlando in Groveland and other gated South Lake County communities are routine stops too.
